The Retired Engineer Who Built a Device That Cuts Electric Bills by 88% — And Why Utility Companies Have Been Trying to Silence Him for a Decade

Tens of thousands of American homeowners are quietly using his blueprint to slash — or virtually eliminate — their monthly electric bills. We investigated to find out if it's real.

DALLAS, TX — When Harold K., a 67-year-old retired electrical engineer from outside Dallas, first showed his neighbors what he'd built in his garage, most of them laughed.

Three months later, those same neighbors were knocking on his door asking for the blueprints.

Harold's electric bill had dropped from $218 a month to $26. Not because he installed solar panels — that would have cost him $22,000 and taken years to break even. Not because he gave up air conditioning or changed his lifestyle in any way. But because of a compact device he assembled over a single weekend using $96 worth of parts from his local hardware store.

"I spent 40 years in electrical engineering," Harold told us. "I knew the physics worked. I just needed to prove it at home scale. When I saw my first bill after building it, I sat down and cried."

Harold recorded everything in a free video — the complete blueprint, the parts list, and exactly how to build it. Over 47,000 homeowners have already watched.

Why You've Never Heard About This

The technology Harold used isn't new. The core principle has existed for over a century. What's new is his application of it — shrinking it down, making it buildable by anyone with basic tools, and proving it works reliably inside a modern American home.

So why isn't this on the evening news? Why hasn't your utility company mentioned it?

We put that question to three independent energy analysts. Two declined to comment on the record. The third — a former grid infrastructure consultant who asked to remain anonymous — was blunt:

"Utility companies operate on a consumption model. Every kilowatt-hour you don't buy from them is revenue they don't see. There is no financial incentive for them to publicize technology that reduces household consumption this dramatically."

— Former grid infrastructure consultant, 22 years in the energy sector

Harold says he has received pressure to stop distributing his blueprint. He won't say from whom. What he will say is that he has already shared the complete plans with over 47,000 people across the country — and that he made it available as a free video presentation because he believes Americans have a right to stop being held hostage by their electric bill.

Despite the pressure to take it down, Harold's video is still live. More than 47,000 people have already accessed the blueprint — at no charge.

What Homeowners Are Reporting

We reached out to several people who had seen Harold's video and built the device. The results were consistent enough to be difficult to dismiss.

A retired couple in Phoenix reported their summer bill dropped from $310 to $41. A homeowner in rural Tennessee says he now stays powered through outages that regularly knock out the rest of his street. A single mother in Ohio told us she went from choosing between groceries and keeping the lights on to having money left at the end of the month.

"I was skeptical. I'm an accountant — I don't believe things until I see the numbers. My bill for February was $34. I have lived in this house for eleven years and never paid less than $140."

— Diane R., homeowner, Columbus, OH

Not everyone saw 88% reductions — results varied based on home size, local utility rates, and how the device was configured. But across the dozens of accounts we reviewed, reductions below 40% were the exception, not the rule.

The device requires no solar panels, no wind turbines, no grid tie-in, and no special permits in most US states. It generates power continuously — including during outages — which Harold argues makes it more practical than rooftop solar for the majority of homeowners who cannot afford battery backup systems.

How Long Will the Video Stay Up?

Harold says his presentation has been taken down and reinstated multiple times. We cannot verify his account of why. What we can confirm is that the link below was active as of this article's publication date.

If you have watched your electric bill climb every year and felt there was no affordable way out of it, Harold's presentation is worth 20 minutes of your time.
